The idea for this painting came to me one day as I was looking through an art history book and admiring the works of many of the great masters. I stumbled upon a well-known painting by Matisse, which features two abstract columns sitting side-by-side & twice as tall as the one you see here. Upon studying it more closely, I noticed that if I completely reversed each color in the painting, using its corresponding opposite color on the color wheel, (i.e. white for black, green for red), a white “birdlike” image emerged. Just for fun, I decided to paint a portion of that column using the reverse colors, and what started as a fun experiment, turned out to be one of my most popular pieces!
